The idea came to me watching an ESPN promotion asking viewers to vote on the biggest moments over the past 30 years. I started thinking about the biggest moments I had witnessed in more than 37 years writing sports in this state. |

1977
1. A study in courage. Wendy Stoeker was a diver from the University of Florida who came to compete at Point Mallard in my first year as sports editor of The Decatur Daily. I watched her do a variety of dives from the highest tower and slice into the water. Wendy was born with no arms. She brushed her hair, even drove a car with her feet
